The first time I tried Nutrisystem was a couple years ago when I was trying to prepare for my best friend’s wedding.  I was in the middle of my busy season at work, and I was constantly on the go, driving my son (who has apraxia) to and from his different therapy appointments.  I felt like my biggest challenge with weight loss was having the time to do food prep, so Nutrisystem seemed like a logical option.  Here are my unbiased thoughts on the Nutrisystem program.

There’s no denying that Nutrisystem makes it easy.  Whenever you are hungry, your food is there and ready to be heated up.  That summer, doing Nutrisystem, I was able to get down to my lowest weight to date.  Now keep in mind, just because the food is prepared and easy to grab, doesn’t mean that your self-control issues will be any different.  You still have to have the will power to resist cheating on your meal plan.  Read more

I recently purchased the Ideal Meal Replacement Shakes from Ideal Shape.  I had been tracking my calories using My Fitness Pal and I noticed that I was getting almost no iron in my diet.  I was low on a couple other minerals as well, but I was most concerned about iron since it’s an important mineral for your body and it isn’t included in multivitamins.  I was also finding myself really hungry when trying to stick to my calorie goals for the day.  After doing a lot of research, meal replacement shakes seemed like a good solution to both problems and I had heard amazing things about the Ideal Shakes (plus they are really reasonably priced) so I decided to give them a try!  Read more

Trainer Lindsey’s 6 week fit body challenge is the program I’m following right now, and it’s working really well for me!  It may just be that it’s the right fit for where I am and what I need right now, but I am honestly loving it.  Essentially, I’m eating a macro balanced diet that is ideal for fitness and weight loss, and Lindsey has done all the work for me to balance it out and give me delicious meal plans to follow. Considering how much I love Trainer Lindsey’s 6 Week Fit Body Challenge, it’s surprising (even to myself) that I don’t love the free 15 day challenge quite as much.  There are some great qualities to it, essentially the same qualities that I love about the 6 week challenge.  It keeps you full and you lose weight pretty quickly.  You are eating a macro balanced diet with more protein and less carbs. My Experience Counting Calories

How I lost 30 pounds counting calories using My Fitness Pal.

I started my weight loss journey by counting calories.  It worked really well for me (that is until I got sick of it, but  more on that later).  I lost 30 pounds over the course of several months by counting calories and doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.  I still wanted to lose another 30 pounds, but I was getting so sick of counting calories.  That’s when I started trying out different diet plans and lifestyles.  You can read my unbiased thoughts on ALL of the programs I have tried here.

But enough about that, we’re talking about counting calories here.  Counting calories can be a good way to lose weight.  Tools like the My Fitness Pal app make it so easy to track your calories.  It tells you exactly how much you should be eating, including how many extra calories you should eat when you work out. What is Clean Eating and How Can it Help You Lose Weight and Feel Great.

The definition of clean eating can vary depending on who you ask.  When I was focusing on clean eating I eliminated processed foods, white flour, and white sugar.  I was buying whole fat dairy (low fat typically means more sugar) and I was making pretty much everything I ate from scratch.  Typically with clean eating you also want to buy organic as much as possible.

Cutting out sugar was a big part of this lifestyle for me.  The first few days were rough, but I found once I got past the first four or five days I wasn’t craving it anymore.  The thing I found most amazing was after a few days I actually wasn’t craving anything anymore!  I ate when I was hungry and other than that I wasn’t really thinking about food (which is unheard of for me).  It was crazy to see how that happened after cutting out all the processed foods (and chemicals that go with them).  Read more
