Considering how much I love Trainer Lindsey’s 6 Week Fit Body Challenge, it’s surprising (even to myself) that I don’t love the free 15 day challenge quite as much. There are some great qualities to it, essentially the same qualities that I love about the 6 week challenge. It keeps you full and you lose weight pretty quickly. Ok I’m going to be really honest here, and kind of contradict myself. I personally did not lose any of my weight from mindful eating (also called intuitive eating). At this time in my life I just couldn’t do it. BUT it is an approach that I feel really strongly about.
I came across the book How to Have Your Cake and Your Skinny Jeans Too and I read it in a day and a half. It was so eye opening and fascinating for me. The author divulges all of the research that shows the effects of long term dieting on our minds, and it was mind blowing. I started my weight loss journey by counting calories. It worked really well for me (that is until I got sick of it, but more on that later). I lost 30 pounds over the course of several months by counting calories and doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I still wanted to lose another 30 pounds, but I was getting so sick of counting calories. That’s when I started trying out different diet plans and lifestyles. But enough about that, we’re talking about counting calories here. Counting calories can be a good way to lose weight. Tools like the My Fitness Pal app make it so easy to track your calories. The 21 Day Fix is a full meal plan and workout system from Beach Body. I do not sell Beach Body, but I have enjoyed all of the workout programs I’ve tried from them. The 21 Day Fix came with a full nutrition and diet framework to follow, in addition to the workouts.

The definition of clean eating can vary depending on who you ask. When I was focusing on clean eating I eliminated processed foods, white flour, and white sugar. I was buying whole fat dairy (low fat typically means more sugar) and I was making pretty much everything I ate from scratch. Typically with clean eating you also want to buy organic as much as possible.
Cutting out sugar was a big part of this lifestyle for me. The first few days were rough, but I found once I got past the first four or five days I wasn’t craving it anymore. The thing I found most amazing was after a few days I actually wasn’t craving anything anymore! I ate when I was hungry and other than that I wasn’t really thinking about food (which is unheard of for me). It was crazy to see how that happened after cutting out all the processed foods (and chemicals that go with them). Read more
If you happened to read the about me section of my blog, you’ll already know that I’ve tried a lot of the weight loss programs out there. In my experience, they all work if you stick with them, so it’s really a matter of finding one that works for you- one you can stick to without being miserable in the long run.
I initially tried Weight Watchers before I got pregnant with my first son, to try and get some extra college weight off. At the time I really liked the flexibility it gave me. I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted as long as I watched my portions and was mindful of including healthy foods. I liked the flex points because I could save them and use them for a splurge sometime over the weekend. I lost weight pretty easily this time around, granted I was young and had a pre-baby body back then. Read more
