When I was in high school I was known for being friendly, cheerful, and optimistic (not sure what happened to that girl!). In fact, it’s one of the things that attracted my now husband to me initially (Yes we met in high school). I can’t say I’m still that overly optimistic person, I find it gets harder as you get older and see more of the bad that happens in the world. However, I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking. That’s why I’m going to lead off this countdown with some very wise words from Theodore Roosevelt.
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
I know I’ve said it before, but one of the things I learned in my personal trainer coursework that I found most interesting, is that the number one predictor for whether or not a client will be successful in his or her fitness goals is whether or not they have been successful at a health or fitness regimen in the past. Once you’ve done something once, you know you are capable of doing it again. The power of believing in yourself is huge! If you don’t believe that you can accomplish a goal, you certainly aren’t going to get there.
“You already have everything you need.”
I originally stumbled upon this quote on The Blissful Mind blog. I was going through a really tough couple years at the time and this quote really hit home for me. I stopped to think, and I realized it was true. Things may not be exactly how I want them to be, but I do have everything I need. I love The Blissful Mind by the way, if you have never checked it out you should. Catherine is so inspiring, I love reading her tips on living a mindful and content life.
“Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.”
– Winston Churchill
This quote can be really inspirational for all areas of life. For me it is particularly comforting when it comes to my health and fitness journey. I have had so many ups and downs along the way, and failed so many times, but you have never truly failed until you stop trying!
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
– Lao Tzu
It’s funny how sometimes the simplest of ideas can be so profound. When I am feeling overwhelmed these wise words help me focus in and take that first step. Whether it’s starting your weight loss journey, beginning school or a new career, or even just cleaning the house. I know I’m not the only one out there whose house turns into a disaster over the weekend. Come Monday I have to focus on one room at a time or I’m pretty sure I would lose my mind… Or at least my motivation!
“Dream big and dare to fail.”
This one speaks for itself. Yes, again with the positive thinking, believe in yourself and dream big!!
