Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been MIA for a couple months. Time flies, I don’t feel like it’s been that long! Things with my family and photography business were just so busy that I had to let go of some responsibilities. Honestly with being a relatively new, small blog I didn’t know if I even had any “loyal readers” per say, who would notice. However, I did see a couple comments from some of you who noticed. Thank you, it was nice to see that I do have some regular readers!
Anyhow, let’s move on to the real topic for this post, 4 yoga poses to help you get ready for a sound nights sleep. If you’re anything like me, yoga (or anything active) is the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day. Typically I want to watch t.v. in my bed and move as little as possible once I get the kids to bed. However, a few gentle yoga poses can be such a great way to calm your mind and stretch out your tight muscles before you go to bed.
So without further adieu, here are the four yoga poses I recommend to help get you relaxed and stretched out before bed.
Wheel pose is great for opening your chest and lungs. The chest is a tight muscle group for most people because of all the time we spend in a hunched over or hunched forward position. Wheel pose provides a great full body stretch and is therapeutic for back pain, depression, and even asthma.
Camel pose is amazing at stretching out your quads, hip flexors, and abdomen. Hip flexors are another really tight muscle group for most people because of all the hours most of us spend sitting each day. Camel pose may feel challenging at first, so only go as far back as feels comfortable, and work up to bending all the way back.
I love pigeon pose. It’s one of my favorites, such a relaxing and wonderful stretch! Of all the poses in this post, this one will feel the easiest for beginners. So even if you only do one pose before you go to bed, do pigeon! It’s another great stretch for your hip flexors, I promise you won’t regret spending a minute or two in this position before bed.
Reclined hero pose
The reclined hero pose is a great deep stretch for your quads. I find it very relaxing and soothing before bed. This pose is not recommended for people with knee problems.
Well there you have it, four yoga poses to help you get ready for a great night’s sleep! Give one a try tonight and feel free to add your own favorite night time yoga poses in the comments below. I always love hearing from you 🙂
